THE LAST CAMPFIRE
AN INDIAN PRAYER

O' GREAT SPIRIT,
Whose voice I hear in the winds,
And whose breath gives life to all the world,
hear me! I am small and weak, I need your strength and wisdom.

Let Me Walk In Beauty, and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.

Make My Hands respect the things you have made, and my ears sharp to hear your voice.

Make Me Wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people.

Let Me Learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.

I Seek Strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy -- myself.

Make Me Always Ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes.

So When Life Fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.

THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND - Woody Guthrie

This land is your land,
This land is my land,
From California to the New York island,
From the Redwood Forest,
To the Gulf Stream waters,
This land was made for you and me.

As I was walking,
That ribbon of highway'
I saw above me that golden valley,
This land was made for you and me.

SEPTEMBER 2001: - Over 6000 missing in the tragic inhumane act of the terrorists at the World Trade Center in New York City. The entire nation was touched, and heart broken, by this senseless act of cruelty.

OCTOBER 1838 - MARCH 1839: - Over 4000 died and buried along the trail leading from North Carolina to the Oklahoma Terrritory, when the Cherokee Indians were "Removed" by force from their long time homes, and sent to Oklahoma.
Most died from pneumonia due to exposure to the freezing winter, when they were forced to sleep on the ground or in the wagons, with no warm clothing, blankets, or fire, and many barefooted.

This death march which began in October of 1838 ended in March of 1839. The long winding route through several states was later to be known as "THE TRAIL OF TEARS". Over 4000 needlessly killed, and one of the darkest days in American History. Another tragedy.

GOD BLESS AMERICA - But let us never forget our mistakes.

Our campfire has about burned out. Thanks so much for coming, and come back and sit with me again.
